Mid Year Book Tag
So far this year I have read and listened to 84 new books. Anyone who is a friend of mine on Goodreads will probably be aware. I have actually set myself a task in their annual book challenge of reading 150 books. My little corner of the internet other wise known as Life with Amelia rarely shares my huge passion of reading. Wanting this blog to reflect more of the real me I have decided to make a few changes over the next few months and this is one of them. So I thought a good place to start would be to take part in the Mid Year Book Tag. Please check out Helen Costello’s mid year round up, she was the lovely lady that tagged me.
BEST BOOK OF 2018 SO FAR:
So far this year I have read a lot of books, so picking a favourite is quite a task. I would say the stand out has probably been Eve of Man dystopian love story by Giovanna and Tom Fletcher, it’s classed as teen fiction due to the ages of the characters but I was still completely lost in the story. I could have read it in one sitting, but work got in the way. It is a trilogy and I can’t wait for the second instalment, which will be a tortuous wait as they are in process of writing it.
It’s not a sequel it is actually the third in the series All about the Hype by Paige Toon. At the moment it appears to be the last in the series, which I hope it isn’t as I have loved following the story of Jesse Jefferson. Yes, it is another book from the teen section, but a spin-off from a story in Paige Toon’s adult collection, Johnny Be Good. I haven’t really read any out and out sequels this year.
NEW RELEASE THAT I HAVE NOT READ YET BUT WANT TO:
There are lots of books that I want to read in the second half of the year but none that truly spring to mind. I am useless at remembering book release dates too, so I always order ahead with the library or amazon when I know an author I like will be releasing a new one.
MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2018:
I am looking forward to the new release by Milly Johnson that is set in the same world as A Winter Flame. This was the first book I read by Milly and I completely fell in love with her as an author. Plus the story was set at Christmas with a Christmas theme park. What wasn’t there for me to love! So I can’t wait to revisit them this Christmas.
6 books I’ve read this year have received the 2 star treatment but I wouldn’t say any of them were particularly a disappointment as I had no expectations for any of them as such.
My biggest surprise was that I din’t love Carol Matthews book this year. I always look forward to her releases but this particular one although readable just wasn’t up to her normal standard for me, Im sad to say.
FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR:
I would say it is probably Rachel Hore I am currently working my way through her back catalogue. After I read The House on Bellevue Gardens. I must admit I decided to try her because her name is Rachel lol. I love the style of writing and the fact the stories move seamlessly between different time periods.
NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH:
Bram from Eve of Man is lovely but I can’t say that I have had a real book crush in ages.
FAVOURITE FICTIONAL CHARACTER:
Bram or Eve from Eve of Man, by any chance do you think I loved that book.
BOOK THAT MAY ME CRY:
Either I have read nothing tear worthy or I have become a real hard hearted bitch this year.
BOOK THAT MADE ME HAPPY:
Is it a cheesy to say all books even the bad ones make me happy as anything can happen when you open that first page. So far this year there has not been a stand out in the happiness stakes.
FAVOURITE BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATION:
I don’t think any of the books I have read this year have been turned into a film, please tell me if I am wrong. Certainly some that I think could be.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK RECEIVED OR BOUGHT:
Can’t answer this one as all the books so far this year are from the library, on the kindle or an audio book. All books are gratefully received if anyone wants to send me one haha.
WHAT BOOKS DO I NEED TO GET TO BY THE END OF 2018:
To Name a few, or else I could be her forever.
The Wish – Alex Brown
Sunset over the Cherry Orchard – Jo Thomas
The Honey Farm on the Hill – Jo Thomas
There is loads more on my Want to read list.
Here we are at the end, so what have you been reading this year. Any stand outs, if so please comment below as I am always looking for good book/author reccomendations. What would be on your mid year book tag?
